Activities Update - July Review

Ellon boccia

Hi everyone,

I’m very privileged to be in such a great role at Inspire - I get to work with so many amazing people! I get to have fun and be creative when organising activities - it really doesn’t feel like work at all!

We have just finished our first ever Inspire Mini-Olympics where the people we support took part in a range of fun activities. Activities included Shot Put, the Toilet Roll Challenge, Ribbon Gymnastics, The Fork Challenge, Boccia, Skittles and the Hula Hoop Challenge. Everyone had a lot of fun and it was quite a competitive.

As restrictions have started to ease a little more, I have been lucky to be able to get out and about - visiting projects and facilitating more activities!

It was a very exciting day for the people we support from three of our Ellon services last week, as they all got together outdoors to play Boccia and see one another for the first time in over 18 months. They have been playing Boccia weekly on Zoom since the end of January - keeping their scores in a league. The staff have also been practicing and are getting quite competitive! While they love to take part in the Zooms and support one another, one of their wishes has been to play together with everyone.

With the further easing of Coronavirus restrictions we were able to make the dream a reality and everyone really enjoyed themselves! They plaed at a local Ellon park and it was great seeing how happy they all were to see their friends face to face after so long. The smiles on everyone's faces were absolutely priceless and made my day. They can't wait to do it again. The Boccia activity has been made in line with Inspire protocols and has been risk assessed.

The darts sessions are up and running and the members have clearly been practicing with so many bulls-eyes being thrown during the weekly games.

One of the more recent tailored activities to start has been Boccia and Bingo at Forfar. We have more exciting plans in the pipeline for some of the other people we support there too.

I’m excited to help facilitate more small group and individual sessions like this in the coming weeks and months, as well as getting to visit more of the people we support.

If you have an activity that I can help you with, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
