WOW! February might be the shortest month of the year, but the people we support at
Inspire have certainly had an action packed month!
At Inverurie, there have been a couple of very special birthdays! Maureen turned 60 at the
start of the month and Fraser was 50 at the end of the month. Grant also had his birthday in
February! Now that’s a lot of cake!
Nicola from Inverurie has been loving going along and working at Halfpenny Farm where she
has been helping with lots of jobs including mucking out and looking after Rubix the goat,
which she is really enjoying.
Everyone at Inverurie enjoyed their first fire pit night of 2023 outside sitting around the fire pit
and munching into marshmallows - yum! They have also been learning how to make
mocktails and how to decorate the tops of the glasses. Everyone had a great time that night.
Work has started in the garden laying membrane down to protect from weeds and the
greenhouse has been moved to a new location in the garden. Pancake Tuesday was great
fun with lots of pancake flipping and races.
Up in Peterhead the guys we support had their first supper club of 2023, and also celebrated
Anne’s birthday at the same time.
Our monthly walking group went to Inverurie in February and everyone enjoyed a walk to the
Fairy Garden, and looking at all the little fairy houses and displays as well as seeing the
snowdrops peeking through.
Our Aberdeen, Elgin and Huntly supper clubs had a great turn out during February.
Quite a few of the people we support enjoyed a trip to Aberdeen city centre to see the
SPECTRA light show, which ran over four nights. They loved seeing all the displays and the
chance to see the new Union Terrace Gardens.
Our Chin WAGs group has also had a super busy February visiting the Art Gallery and
enjoying the interactive activities, dancing away at the new day time Boogie in the Bar disco,
and making chocolate brownies.
The group also had a visit from Mike and Mark from Police Scotland, who came along to the
drop in session to talk to the group about safety and fraud.
The police chatted to the guys about who they could trust if they felt they were in any danger
when they were out and about, and they also learned lots of safety tips during the talk, and
how to spot banking and online fraud.
And while everyone got top marks for knowing which numbers to call in an emergency and
non emergency, they said they had learned lots and thanked the officers for their time.
Activities coordinator Sarah popped onto SHMU radio to chat about what we had been up to
at Inspire recently with Mike “on the mic” Melvin and Rod “on the radio” McDermott.
We rounded off February with a fun party games session where people we support enjoyed
musical chairs, musical statues, pin the tail on the donkey and pass the parcel.
