Wow, I’ve been in post for nearly six months already! It’s been a complete whirlwind, but I’m loving every minute of it.
It’s been great to meet so many of the people we support at our online activities as well as working with some more closely during the individual and tailored activities that we have been running.
As restrictions have started to ease a little, I have been very lucky to be able to start going out to projects to meet the staff and people we support face to face. This has been really exciting and I have been made to feel so welcome. All visits have been made in line with Inspire protocols and have been risk assessed.
I spent a lovely sunny afternoon outside at Esslemont in Ellon during one of our tailored Boccia sessions watching Gordon and Jimmy playing - they are very good! Then we had a nice chat in the garden about other things they enjoy doing and meals they like cooking.
Matthew and Jane at Malcolm’s Mount showed me the vegetable patch they have been busy growing with lots of tasty veg. Alison was showing off her amazing art work, and I got to see their amazing lockdown scrapbook! It’s filled with lots of photos of all the amazing activities and projects they have undertaken and celebrated with the staff since lockdown started. Such a lovely book with lots of memories to look back on.
The tailored boccia, bingo and darts sessions are all running so well and it’s been so nice to see everyone growing in confidence and forging friendships with people they might not have known before taking part. Colin from SJC scored 5 - yes 5 bulls-eyes at one of our recent darts sessions, and won three of the four matches played. He’s clearly been busy practicing.
One of the newer tailored activities to start has been boccia and bingo at Forfar. I’m excited to help facilitate more small group and individual sessions like this in the coming weeks and months, as well as getting to visit more of the people we support.
If you have an activity that I can help you with, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
