It’s a new year and despite some challenging weather, 2023 is already off to a busy start with
our activities at Inspire.
At Inverurie, the start of the year was a busy one at St James’s Court celebrating Birthdays
for Lynsay, Sian and Stuart, who had a very special birthday. There was lots of cake and
celebrating.
Some of the guys in Inverurie have been busy making bird treats, which were hanging out in
the garden in time for the RSPB Big Bird Watch. As well as helping to make the bird treats,
Andrew also got creative and made a massive cardboard dragon, which we all think is pretty
impressive.
Andrew, Colin and Grant got together for a supper club, while others enjoyed a trip out to
Huntly and a walk to the castle.
Scott was treated to a smooth shave at the barbers which he really enjoyed and everyone
had a great time at a cinema night, watching Light Year,
In Peterhead, Clunas has been busy working away at the Mens Shed, and he also made a
wee surprise visit at the start of the year to see George and Brian. They all had a great time
catching up over a cuppa.
Staff and people we support in Peterhead also enjoyed the big snowfall during January and
took advantage of building a snowman. Ryan was absolutely delighted with his finished
snowman.
In Aberdeen, our walking group met up and enjoyed a lovely walk around the Winter
Gardens in the Duthie Park, as it was bitterly cold and quite slippery outside. Everyone
enjoyed looking at all the flowers and plants, especially the banana trees, which attracted a
lot of attention.
Both our Aberdeen and Elgin supper clubs had a great turn out, and we also had a new
supper club start up in Huntly, thanks to one of the people we support there.
Marc, who attends our Inspire by Huntly service, and has recently moved into one of our
services in Huntly, was keen to mix with others we support in the area. One of his outcomes
was to meet more people and get to know others and he felt getting together for some food
would be a great idea!
Marc chatted with the activities team to help him achieve this dream. Marc was instrumental
in asking the people he lived and worked with if they would like to have a supper club and
helped to pick out locations.
Everyone had a great time at the event and a massive thanks to Fiona at the Mart for the
amazing macaroni, chips and peas, and either apple pie and custard or trifle for pudding.
Those who attended had a chat about favourite meals so we could plan the main courses for
the next few months and everyone enjoyed a couple of games of bingo. Marc was delighted
to see his idea come to fruition and like the others he can't wait for the next one.
Linda and David from Banchory came along and helped out at one of our recruitment events
in Morrison’s in Banchory. They were delighted to talk to everyone and tell them what a great
place Inspire was to work for.
Our Chin WAGs group have enjoyed music bingo, games, a cinema session, and have also
been busy designing their own tartans as part of an activity for Burns Day.
